Paddling with Purpose - Protecting everyone’s right to clean water - 3 years, 5 coastlines, 6000 miles

 

In an effort to raise awareness for the protection of our nation’s watersheds and coastlines, The Beachwalk Project team has

committed to paddling and walking the major coastlines of the United States in the next three years.   Their ventures include:

 

Atlantic Coast               1600 miles, Miami to Manhattan                              Summer 2007

Guam Coast                 85 miles, Where America’s Day Begins                 March 2008

Pacific Coast                1600 miles, Seattle to San Diego                            Summer 2008

Gulf Coast                     1400 miles, Corpus Christi to Key West                Spring 2009

Great Lakes                  1600 miles, Superior to St. Lawrence                     Summer 2009

 

The team will be visiting coastal communities along their entire trek to present engaging educational programs to community

groups and children. They have invited everyone from school children to executives to join them on portions of their trek.

 

“This venture is about uniting communities to care for our coastlines.” says co-founder Stein Kretsinger,

“Our hope is to raise environmental awareness on a local and national level.  If every community takes

 care of their watersheds then we will all have a clean ocean to enjoy.”

 

The team will be raising money and awareness for Waterkeeper Alliance® (www.waterkeeper.org) which is a grassroots

advocacy organization with 172 local clean water advocates, patrolling and protecting everyone's right to clean water.
